Compact Two-Channel Wideband Receiver

The CA7852 is a compact two-channel wideband digitising receiver with an operating frequency range of 20 MHz to 6 GHz. The CA7852 was designed specifically for high-performance RF signal monitoring, direction-finding and geo-location applications.

The CA7852 embodies two independent frequency converter cards. The signal path features a number of Low-Noise-Amplifiers to maximise sensitivity, gain control to maximise dynamic range and an input RF isolation switch to enable co-located operation with active RF effectors. Each frequency converter card employs a double-conversion super-heterodyne architecture, utilising CommsAudit’s proprietary technology yielding low time delay-uncertainty/highly stable group delay characteristics.

The internal low phase noise synthesizers provide independent tuning of each channel, or, phase-coherent operation using internal or external sources. The synthesizer features an internal high-precision Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OXCO) providing superior frequency accuracy. The external reference input is configurable, accepting 10 MHz or 100 MHz external reference inputs e.g from GPSDO/GNSSDO. The external reference port may also be used as an output to discipline other external devices.

The CA7852 accepts a 1PPS input, which is resampled into the system clock domain to deliver sample-accurate timestamps.

The internal digital-down-converter card has two high dynamic range Analogue-Digital-Converters (ADC) operating at a sampling rate of 250 Mega-Samples-Per-Second (MSPS) with 16 bit resolution yielding a maximum useable bandwidth of 100 MHz. The CA7852 is capable of lossless transfer of full rate time-domain data from each channel to internal or external Digital Signal Processing (DSP) resources via high speed digital interfaces. The CA7852 embodies a XilinX® Kintex® Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for data management and interfacing. Where enhanced DSP resources are required, the CA7852 is available with a XilinX® ZynQ® System on Chip (SoC) with hardware and software programmability.

CommsAudit can provide integrated DSP features including, configurable lossless FFT processing delivering wideband summary Power Spectral Density data (PSD), a high performance channeliser enabling 128 independent narrowband digital down converter (DDC) channels, and an internal RAM buffer/delay line for channeliser data (pre-channelizer).
